About

Vasectomy with Dr. Zerden

Dr. Matthew Zerden is the Medical Director of His Choice Vasectomy of Durham and Chapel Hill. As a result of both his professional and personal experiences, he is a firm believer in providing easily accessible vasectomy. He understands minimally invasive vasectomy is the safest and most effective method for preventing pregnancy.

Professional Motivations For Providing Vasectomy

After graduating from Harvard Medical School, Dr. Zerden moved to the Triangle to complete a residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. After residency, he completed a Complex Family Planning Fellowship at the University of North Carolina. This additional training allowed him to become an expert in the medical literature focusing on pregnancy prevention and in providing contraception for women with high risk medical conditions.

As a result of his professional experiences, Dr. Zerden has a deep understanding of how control of reproduction is a personal decision for patients. During his career as a women’s health care specialist, he has delivered thousands of healthy babies for happy couples. He has also taken care of numerous patients who have suffered significant health complications when pregnancies did not go as planned. These complications often have had devastating effects on the mother, her partner, and her family.

Dr. Zerden has cared for many patients who experienced birth control failures. He became skilled at providing contraception and sterilization to his female patients but he came to a point in his career where he realized he could do more to help prevent unplanned pregnancy. As a result of his training in Complex Family Planning, he was aware vasectomy was far more effective and safer than tubal ligation.

Awareness does not always lead to enlightenment and sometimes it takes a meaningful personal experience to highlight the true importance of an event.

Personal Motivations For Providing Vasectomy

In the first twenty years of his marriage, Dr. Zerden’s wife assumed the responsibility for preventing pregnancy. After his third child was born, Dr. Zerden decided vasectomy was the best method to permanently prevent pregnancy for his family.

Dr. Zerden had his minimally invasive vasectomy procedure with Dr. Monteith. He was amazed he was able to drive himself home after his procedure. Within forty-eight hours, he quickly returned to his regular routine and no ice or frozen peas were required!

For Dr. Zerden, the vasectomy procedure was easy, especially when compared to a female tubal ligation procedure for women. Only after his personal vasectomy experience did he realize how simple a vasectomy procedure could be. As a result of a fifteen minute office procedure, his wife did not have to continue to have side effects from hormonal birth control and, more importantly, she did not have a more risky tubal ligation procedure.

Dr. Zerden’s personal vasectomy experience impressed upon him how women have so many different options available for birth control. Unfortunately, control of female reproductions has been the primary focus of research in reproductive medicine.

As a direct result of his personal experience with vasectomy, Dr. Zerden sought additional training in minimally invasive vasectomy. His goal is to provide a safer, more effective alternative to female birth control methods.

Dr. Zerden is excited to be a provider of His Choice No Scalpel Vasectomy in the Chapel Hill and Durham areas. He firmly believes in increasing access to simple, no hassle vasectomy. His goal is to provide patients with an affordable vasectomy procedure performed during a single office visit.

About Dr. Monteith

Dr Charles Monteith is the Medical Director of His Choice Raleigh North Carolina.

Dr. Monteith is board certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology and he believes more physicians should offer reduced barrier, minimally invasive vasectomy.

Dr Monteith offers no scalpel vasectomy training to physicians who would like to incorporate vasectomy services into their current practices.
