What makes us the best vasectomy doctor near you and worth traveling to?

Earlier this week, I had a patient reach out on the website and ask, “What’s the benefit for coming here vs going to a big urology practice?”
I’ll summarize what I think are the best aspects of His Choice Durham that set us apart. Below are some of the reasons why we are the best vasectomy doctor near you and worth the travel. These include the convenience of our scheduling, the cost of our vasectomy, the price transparency, and our no-needle, no scalpel vasectomy technique which will lead to a quick recovery.

Convenient, patient-centered scheduling

vasectomy durhamI’ve heard from multiple patients that scheduling through the big urology and academic institutions is a nightmare. When you call, you are often put on hold, and it’s difficult to actually find someone to speak with.

Once you reach someone, you are given a “consultation” visit, that can be scheduled weeks to even months out. When you go to that appointment, you may be charged a fee, you meet your surgeon, undergo an exam and consent, and then are given a surgical date that is weeks or months in the future. The whole process from calling to obtaining your vasectomy can take over 6 months!

I have appointments for vasectomy for every week in the summer open right now. You can make an appointment and have your vasectomy this week! Click here for our website scheduling.

I also had a patient recently who went through all of these steps only to have his surgical date delayed. He was called the day before and informed that the surgery wasn’t going to happen as planned.  They offered him a date 6 weeks in the future. He called me frantically, and we got him an appointment with me 2 days later.

Accessible website where you can schedule your no needle, no scalpel vasectomy procedure without a need for a consultation (in most cases)

vasectomy near meAnother aspect of our process that patients really like is how accessible everything is from the website. Patients can view all the information about vasectomy including watching an actual procedure and learning about the risks, benefits and alternatives from the comfort of their homes.

By placing all of this information on the website, we eliminate the need for multiple appointments. Patients can spend as much time as they need with the videos and materials on the website.

When you are ready, book you appointment through the website. There is no need to call and have a back and forth with an office, waiting for a scheduling assistant to check dates and get back to you. You simply go on our website, click on the schedule now tab, and choose the date and time that is best for you.

Price transparency: eliminate the hassle by knowing the cost up front

The most common questions we get about pricing are:

  • Do you take insurance? And
  • How much is the vasectomy?

We do not take insurance, mainly because insurance is a complicated and expensive aspect of running a medical practice. If we accepted insurance, we would have to hire multiple people to manage all of the forms and pre-authorizations. This would increase our price.

Instead we have a simple, price transparent process. As of 2024, our vasectomies cost $1250. No more. You pay $150 to hold the appointment, and pay the rest ($1100) at the time of your procedure.

If you want to submit for reimbursement, we provide all of the necessary forms that you need to be reimbursed by your insurance company. When I speak to patients who have attempted to go to other practices and use their insurance, they report a long and frustrating process. If they can actually reach a billing specialist at a big urology or academic medical center, they cannot receive the simple answer to the question:

WHAT WILL I PAY?                                                                                                                                                 Cost of vasectomy

Often patients who use insurance will pay more, sometimes much more, than the $1250 because of deductibles, co-insurance, co-pays, etc. Not to mention the two visits and the hassle of going to these offices multiple times.

About 3 or 4 times a week I say to patients or potential patients: “Our vasectomies cost $1250. No more (no less). You can submit to insurance after, and you can call ahead to see if I am in network or what the expected amount of reimbursement will be. While I can’t guarantee that you will receive any money back from them, I can guarantee that you won’t pay any more than $1250.”

This is an office-based, primary care procedure with a quick recovery

We use the most minimally invasive techniques that include no-needle and no scalpel. Patients are often surprised at how quick and painless the procedure is (read our reviews). We are typically able to get folks in and out of the health center in about 45-60 minutes. Recovery is shorter because we don’t typically use suture.

Patients can **typically** get back to exercise and normal activity in 4-7 days. Patients can schedule and learn about the procedure by being on the website and watching videos on their phone, tablets or computers. We have appointments throughout the week, and we make this a simple process.

Here is information from a reputable source, the CDC, on vasectomy.

Patients come from all around North Carolina, Virginia & South Carolina

Many patients travel 50, 100 or even 200 miles from their home to His Choice because we have simplified the process. Earlier this month, I had a patient travel over 500 miles from his home for the procedure. He felt like the drive was totally worth it because of how hard it was to schedule a vasectomy in his home in Ohio.
